Simple Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 12-ounce bag semisweet chocolate chips

Method

  1. Position two racks near the center of the oven, heat to 375°F, and line two baking sheets with parchment.
  2. Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Beat the butter and both sugars for about 4 minutes, until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla.
  4. Mix in the dry ingredients just until incorporated, then stir in the chocolate chips.
  5. Scoop heaping tablespoons of dough about 2 inches apart and roll them into balls with slightly damp hands.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes, rotating the pans between racks halfway through, until golden but still soft in the center. Cool briefly on the pans, then transfer to racks. Repeat with the remaining dough after the pans cool.
