Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar, divided
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 cups peeled, pitted, and thinly sliced fresh peaches (5 to 6 medium peaches)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Ground cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Pour the melted butter into a 13-by-9-by-2-inch baking dish.
  3. Combine the flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk just until combined.
  4. Pour the batter over the butter without stirring the layers together.
  5. Combine the peaches, lemon juice, and remaining sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring constantly.
  6. Pour the peach mixture over the batter without stirring. Sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
  7. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until golden brown. Serve warm or cold.
